morning shake

all,
i want to find out what others are taking for the daily protein shakes... if you could reply with the contents and frequency and/or any tips/tricks that you may have in term of ingrediets or preparation or whatever, i would appreciate it.

here what i use:
1 scoop "Casein Protein from Optimum Nurtition"
1/2 tablespoon ThinFat
1 tablespoon fiber powder

i take this first thing in the moring and last thing at night.

i use casein protein b/c it creates a different pH level in your stomach, congeles and is more slowly digested than whey protein.  the thinfat is mainly for CLA intake to help my body adjust to my increased exercise and better diet to promote weight loss and muscle toning.  i use the fiber power to help stay regular and take out the bad stuff in my system.

so far the results have been great.  i've lost 12 pounds (althoug i have increased my exercise significantly and have changed my eating habits), my percent body fat is down by 3%.  the one thing i don't like about the protein powder is that it has sucralose.  i'm really trying to find a high quality protein power with no sugar or a little real sugar, not artifical sweetener like sucralose.

i'm wondering about green shakes and/or a mix of a green shake power with a protein powder.

preparation: i usually use lowfat organic cow's milk but sometimes use soymilk.  first put in power, then thinfat oil, then fiber power, then insert the stick blender then add milk and mix.  i've found this sequence reduces clumping and doesn't create any mess in the kitche.

i'd like to consider a green shake power, using some type of quality juice (like mangosteen, acai or pom)...

anyway, tell me what you're doing, what you like, how you do it and most important, why.  also, please include links for your products so we research them and get pricing.

here are links to what i'm using in case you're wondering.  i usually get it all from the vitaminn shoppe, but may begin purchasing online if i can save money.

I take an all natural whey protein shake immediately after weight training.  Whey protein gets absorbed very quickly and is shown to repair muscles more effectively when taken right after resistance training.

I am not sure what brand it is, but I picked it up from whole foods.  A couple of years ago I had given up on protein shakes because I can't stand the after taste of artificial sweeteners (yes even sucralose).  But this one is sweetened with fructose and doesn't have any artificial stuff.  I mix two scoops with about 8 oz of rice milk which gives me about 20G of protein.

Recently a lot of manufacturers have started making natural proteins as the demand has increased.  Optimum used to have an all natural whey protein.  You should be able to find a casein protein that is natural if you look around.

Good luck

Ok I checked it out and it is a Biochem whey protein.  I looked around and it doesn't look like they have a 100% casein protein.  Optimum seems to be only company making a 100% casein protein powder right now.  However, there are many companies that have protein blends that include casein.  Jarrow formulas has one called Micellsize that is primarily casein protein.  I have used their products and think they are very high quality.  I would swap the sucralose in optimum for a small amount of whey protein per serving if I ware you.

zeus, thanks for the follow up.  i had just finished my casein protein tub and had already made a trip to the vitaminshoppe when i saw your message.  anyway, i have a new shake concoction:

1.  VitaShoppe Soy-Free Vegetable Protein
2.  Trader Joes Very Green
3.  Renew Life Organic Triple Fiber (flax, bran and acacia)
4.  VPX ThinFat
5.  Symbiotics Colostrum Plus
6.  New Chapter Probiotics - Immune Support (one capsule)

This is mixed with pomogranite juice.  It doesn't taste very good, but is drinkable.  I have noticed on the very first day of taking it an increase in energy and a better mood throughout the day.  It is a little gritty, i think from the fiber.  it's a totally different shake than i was taking before.

good probiotics are kept refrigerated, so you probably don't want to buy those online, but instead from your local healthfood store or gnc/vitamin shoppe.  I also take different multi-vitamin later in the afternoon from Trader Joe's that is more vegetarian friendly than my previous one called Trader Darwin's High Potency Multiple Vitamin and Mineral Sustained Release Dietray Supplement.
