How much sugar in a 12 oz. can of regular soda
Posted June 19th, 2007 by mona
I just found out that a 12 oz. serving of regular soda contains 10-12 teaspoons of sugar!
That is absolutely disgusting! I would never poor a glass of water and add 10 spoons of sugar so why would I want to drink it in a soda?!?! I will think twice before drinking soda again.
By the way, people don't realize that they consume 22% of their calories from beverages so we need to be smart as to what ingredients are in our drinks!

This is absolutely true. Many years ago I lost 15 pounds in around 4 months just by cutting out soft drinks (about 2 a day). In addition to sugar and calories, soft drinks also contain phosphoric acid, which causes loss of bone density, and sodium/potassium benzoate, which can react with other food elements to form benzene, a carcinogen.
if you like sweet carbonated drinks, one approach you may want to consider is to make your own.
you can buy your carbonated water of your choice and use a natural sweetener (for example, fresh juice from fruits of your choice). you can control how sweet you make your drink, and also this type of sugar is not as bad for you.
keep in mind, also that sugar in general is not bad. it provides us with energy and minerals when taken in a natural form and in the proper quantity.
what we want to avoid are refined sugars.
for example, gur (unrefined sugarcane) is very good for you. according to ayurvedic tradition, gur helps to heal throat and lung infections.
so many things in this world are actually very good for us. the problem is that our nature is to take what is good, and use it in a manner which was not intended.
