eating sand
Posted September 6th, 2007 by rickster81
we recently had a family vacation at the beach and i had several nice gulps of seawater while playing in the ocean. probably had a little sand on the side. i commented to my cousin that eating sand was probably harmless, perhaps even good for you. assuming it's like insoluble fiber, it would pass right through your system.
interesting, i found this artlcle about eating sand:

haha this article is preposterous!!!!!!!!! 3 pounds of sand a day, 2 pounds in one sitting? I guarantee she would have died the first day as indigestible sand would have clogged her digestive track. Also, you think she could eat a breakfast after eating 2 pounds of sand????
This is certainly a joke, and obviously a very very dangerous thing to try.
so what do you think about a teaspoon or two? would that be harmful? helpful?
I don't think accidentally swallowing a little bit of sand causes any serious problems. I don't know about benefits though...
hey rick,
i hereby extend an offer to provide the sand of your choice from anyplace on the u.s. eastern shores if you agree to eat a kilo of it every day for a week and let me videotape it for the benefit of the rest of the myhealthgate community.
you can even season it - with cholula or anything else you like.
How on earth does that woman "eat" the sand? Does she put it in water and swallow that way, sort of like taking in a mouthful of sea water? I find the whole thing both icky and not really believable!!!! Also how do you "flavour" sand?
You would have also thought that there would have been a photo of the woman in question?
