walking on the treadmill

Okay....i admit, i never thought i could get a good workout from walking.  wow, was i wrong.

I tried this new routine over the weekend, and it was really tough.  The first five minutes entailed walking on the treadmill at an incline of 15 at 4mph for 5 min.  I wasnt able to do it.  I had to bring it down to 12 at 3.7mph, and I was huffing and puffing on that treadmill.  If you've never tried raising the incline before, like myself, I highly recommend it.  It makes the treadmill a whole new world. 

Anyway, the workout entailed alternating between 5 min. of doing high resistance and low speed with 5 min. of low resistance and high speed.  It was a good shake up to my normal exercise routine.

I lost over 30 pounds last year and the only cardio I did was walk. I walked both indoor on the treadmill and outdoors. I also added weight training but the walking I think was the biggie. Of course I ate very healthy too! I think that the treadmill is good for people who can't do heavy duty cardio on the other types of equipment.  I am getting ready to pull mine back out to get ready for this summer!
