Give a gift

Well I am off to the right start now that I am settled into my new home here in Boston.  Today I donated blood.  It isn't the first time I have done this.  It is a rewarding little job that onnly takes about an hour for the entire process that ends up giving three people the chance at a new life.  That's rigth your little donation helps save three lives.  Now I sound like an advertisement for the Red Cross.  Funny, but it's not.  It is just how I feel.  Maybe it is because of how I was raised.  Give where ever, when ever, and how ever you can.  I truly believe in Karma.  What goes around comes around.  So give blood, you will be glad that you did.  I gave at Simmons College today.  There are always places to donate.  You can check the website fro a donation location nearest you.  Go to www.givelife.org  There you can search for the time and place that works for you.  On the other end, I have also received blood and I am thankful for those people who donate.

Giving blood is a wonderful wonderful thing. My mother got me started doing it, years ago. She and my father are in their 70s and they donate every 2 months. Certainly they will be on the news someday "happy couple gives their 100th gallon - or something"  :)

When I am done breastfeeding I will definitely start to give again.

A few days ago I donated for the 4th time and a couple weeks ago my mom donated for her 50th time. When I was a kid, I couldn't understand why she wanted to have pain and donate, but the idea stayed in my mind and later I just had to test whether I could take it. And I could and felt so light and calm afterwards!
I used to have a low hb but some time ago I got an iud and the last time when I donated, my hb was higher already. Now I can donate the blood that used to go down the drain (heavy periods), lol.

I am ashamed to admit I have never given blood before.  I have always been rather scared of needles.  My first pregnancy, I made my husband come with me and hold my hand for every blood test!  Now, three kids behind me, I guess I have been through enough that I can suck it up and give it a try.
