weight gain

I just read the news article posted about rethinking pregnancy weight gain guidelines. Let me say, with confidence, that I gained 50 pounds with each of my three pregnancies, and I truly believe it was what my body needed. I was not over indulging in junk food. In fact, I was very conscious about cutting out caffeine, sodas, and eating healthy foods. I did allow ice cream and chocolate... But even the second and third time around when I tried to gain less weight, I ended up gaining almost exactly the same amount each time. I listed to my bodies cravings and ate what I felt I needed, whenever I was hungry. I also did exercise a lot with my third pregnancy. I continued to go to the gym and do my step and other aerobic classes at a lower intensity.

I did not experience the negative effects of a large weight gain as the article details. After about a year after each birth I was able to lose the weight. My kids are all healthy, and are/were not overweight. Its not that I am recommending that you gain as much weight as I did. I am quite tall..and I'm sure its not necessary for everyone.

I guess I feel that each person is unique and what is good for some is not good for all. So listen to your own body and not guidelines listed for the masses. As long as you are eating healthy foods, It is okay to gain weight when you are pregnant!
