Running/Walking Races
I finished my first 10k this past weekend. I actually didn't have the intention of beating any certain time, and did it with a friend just for fun. I felt good signing up because I was supporting a good cause, and I knew it would be a nice day to be outside and get active. I definitely didn't expect how completely EXHILARATING and amazing I would feel before, during and after the event!! I probably ran half of it, and walked the rest, which wasn't a lot for me. At the end I knew I could've run more and been faster, but nonetheless it was so much fun and so exciting. It was amazing how much energy I had!! I am going to try to do more races, and hopefully begin training for half marathons and marathons in the area. I would definitely recommend everyone to get out there and do one!
For those of you in VA/DC/MD area -- Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure 5K is coming up May 10, 2008 in Richmond, VA! http://www.nationalraceforthecure.org/ This would be a great start for everyone! You don't have to be a runner -- walking is still GREAT!

I just joined a running group! My first run was this morning - they run every saturday morning at 7:30 am. It's so great now that the weather is nice, the mornings provide the perfect weather. I'm so glad I joined the group because now I have people to run with, and to keep my motivation strong! It's so easy when you're by yourself to just wimp out (this goes for any form of exercise) and call it a day. With the group though, everyone is motivating each other to keep going when you think you cant, but you actually can! I suppose the same would go for whatever is your exercise of choice -- try to find people you can do it with and it'll be so much easier!
