sweet foods and sweet smells help increase tolerance to pain?

hi folks,
i heard today that eating sweets and even smelling a sweet smell helps to increase tolerance to pain.
can anyone point to a study on this subject?

I don't have any study to prove that but I've read that sugar (glucose maybe?) solution is used as a mild painkiller for tiny babies (those born preterm) in hospitals when blood samples are taken. (It's said that then the baby just smiles and doesn't notice anything.)
I wonder if the sweets release endorphins somehow. Thats the only thing I can think that it might be.
I don't know of any studys either, but I know that sweets always make me feel better!
