To combat muscle soreness or inflammation, ingest Arnica Montana or apply it topically to bruises.
You will find it in different forms - ointment, pellets, tablets etc. Check your local health food store.

i am having some soreness in my arm and have been using arnica montana 30c by boiron that i got from whole foods.  i couldn't find my arnica gel but i did use some tiger balm arthritis rub and it worked pretty well.

also i slept wrong and threw out my neck, the arnica and tiger balm helped with that too. 

do you know of any good practitioners of homeopathy in the DC metro area?

In my family, as icky as this may sound, we usually use powdered sea sponge for bruises. I've not seen it sold in America, but it's abundant in Russia. Simply mix with warm water until it's a paste,  and apply it to the area for 15 minutes. Within a day, the bruise usually halves in size.
